Hexham has a beautiful abbey that dates back to 673 AD and the oldest prison in England, it has witnessed many battles and skirmishes from the Vikings to the Border Raiders. Hexham has a good variety of places to eat, a large leisure centre with an indoor pool, a cinema and a theatre.
There are many places of interest to visit, most of which are just a short drive away from our Holiday Park: Hadrian's Wall with its new visitor centre at The Sill, Vindolanda Roman Fort and Settlement where you can watch Roman artefacts being dug up if you're lucky and the children can play with their swords in the fort. Vast Housesteads with its stunning views and Corstopitum at Corbridge where, after you have visited the well preserved Roman garrison, you could eat or go shopping in the boutique shops of this lovely village then have a walk along the riverside. Prudhoe Castle, Blanchland in its fairytale setting to the south and the wild border raiders country to the North are all worth a visit.
There are vast areas of countryside and parks for walking and cycling and leisure pursuits such as golf and angling (the River Tyne is one of the best salmon rivers in England) close by. There are some lovely walks and cycling directly from our holiday park which is situated on a quiet country road.
You can find more information on the www.visithexham.net website which is a good resource for eateries, pubs, attractions, sport, leisure facilities, art, music and the history of the Hexham.
