Visit Vindolanda where you may see Roman artefacts dug up and the children can play with swords in the fort. Housesteads has a vast site on a hillside with the most amazing views. Lovely countryside walks can be made directly from your caravan and walking and cycling routes in Northumberland and Durham take you through some wonderful, wild scenery. The history of Hexham Abbey dates back to 673AD and the old Gaol across the market place is the oldest prison in England. There is a Theatre complex with a library, Cinema and the Leisure centre with its large indoor pool, bowling alley, classes, and running track.
