Hexham Racecourse takes full advantage of a natural amphitheatre of sloping gras below the stands to provide superb viewing of horse racing as well as the magnificent surrounding countryside.

Wedding Ceremonies

Hexham Racecourse has a licence to hold marriage ceremonies and set in beautiful country surroundings it's the perfect venue for the ceremony and reception.

Henderson Room

Overlooking the parade ring, the Henderson Room offers great dining with a panoramic view of the course and the winner's enclosure.

Pavilion Restaurant

Grande Buffet with traditional carvery, hot and cold cuisine, salad bar and desserts to tantalise your taste buds, with a superb view of the course.

Christmas Meeting - Wed 13th December - ABANDONED

Due to a frozen track and insufficient time for a decent thaw after the 5th night in a row of hard frost we are sorry to announce that our 2017 Christmas Meeting, which should be held on Wednesday 13th December, has had to be cancelled. We apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Meeting - Wednesday 22nd November - 1st Race 12.25pm

Lowanbehold winner of a race at Hexham on 22nd November 2017Heavy Going favoured some of the stronger stayers at our penultimate meeting of the year when the big money race was the 'Hexham Is Britain's Most Scenic Racecourse Handicap Chase' over a gruelling 4 miles.

The stamina of winner Lowanbehold (at 6/1) and Moorlands Mist (at 7/2) in second saw them finish 40 lengths ahead of the 3rd horse Shake It Up, which was the only other finisher out of 6.


Weatherby's Day - Friday 10th November - 1st Race 12.40pm

Another good day's racing at High Yarridge when racegoers were treated to a bonus race, due to the first race being divided due to the number of entries.

The feature race of the day was The Weatherbys' Racing Bank Novices Handicap Chase – 3m 41y (value £7000), which was won by the 9/4 favourite Western Jo followed by Ronn The Conn at 9/2 and Teddy Tee in third at 14/1.

intu Metrocentre & Eldon Square Day - Sat. 14th Oct - 1st Race 2.15pm

Native Optimist One of our most popular race meetings of the year with the club enclosure completely sold out.

Despite the heavy going racegoers enjoyed 7 exciting races with one of the feature races, worth £6,498 to the winner, the intu Eldon Square Alive After Five Handicap Hurdle, being won by Native Optimist at 11/1 followed by Total Assets at 8/1 with the 11/4 favourite Gamain in third.

Congratulations to James Trainer from Yarm in North Yorkshire, who wins a table for 2 in the Pavilion Restaurant and thanks to all of you who took the trouble to complete it.

YoungsRPS Day - Friday 6th October 2017 - 1st Race 2.25pm

Bitview ColinAnother good afternoon of racing for our first October meeting at High Yarridge.

Our 6 race card was sponsored by YoungsRPS and Gladstone Bowling Club, with the feature race being be 'The YoungsRPS Leaders In The Field Handicap Hurdle' due off at 4.10pm with a value of £8,500.

The race was won by 14/1 outsider Bitview Colin from the 5/4 favourite Ryedale Racer with Beyondtemptation third at 10/1.

Twilight Meeting - Thurs 14th Sept. 2017 - 1st Race 4.10pm

Even the going was predominantly heavy we had a good evening's racing for one of increasingly popular twilight meetings.

Hexham Racecourse Family Fun Evening Top

The Family Fun Evening was just that! An evening of exciting racing and free entertainment in the children’s area including Penalty Shoot-Out, Crazy Golf, Mega 4 In Line, Bouncy Castles and Face Painting.

Continuing the 'family theme', Hexham Racecourse is helping to encourage younger people to come racing by linking up with British Racing's biggest ever national under 18s campaign #STIRRUPSUMMER, which includes a host of activities and videos organised nationally.There's more details on our Family Fun Evening page.

Roadworks and Road Closures*

There are roadworks scheduled to take place between August and November, which may affect journeys to and from the racecourse. Closure of Hexham Bridge will affect our meeting on 21st August. Hexham Bridge… traffic lights for approx. 6 weeks.

According to signage in the town they are working on the bridge throughout the day but will have a traffic light one lane system in place from approx. 8pm till 6am each night.

Causey Hill… road closure expected between 7th August until 25th August (however the order is from 7th August to 7th November)

Work continues between 7am-5pm with traffic diversion via Eastgate/Yarridge Road. Northumberland County Council have issued a 'notice of resurfacing works', which you can view here. (PDF).


Linnels Bank… road closure expected between 13th August until 16th August (however the order is from 13th August to 14th November).

Work continues between 7am-5pm.

Meeting - Sun 25th June - totepool Ladies Day

Posh frocks, decorative hats and smart suits were the order of the day at Yarridge Heights on the 25th June, when we had a great afternoon of racing and high fashion.

Fashion experts Lesley Lister and her team from Tyne Tees Models were on the lookout to select the winners in the 'Fashion Stakes'!

There were fabulous prizes for Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Couple, Best Hat and Best Dressed Little Miss and below you can see the winners.

Meeting - Sat 17th June - Marie Curie Day - 1st Race 2.15pm

Epsom Racecourse Our special charity meeting to raise awareness and funding for Marie Curie, who support people living with any terminal illness, and their families.

It was great day of racing on a glorious afternoon at High Yarridge, where we had the added bonus of an extra race due to the number of entries.

Hexham Racecourse 'Derby Day' Meeting - Saturday 3rd June 2017

Epsom Racecourse There was a great afternoon of racing at High Yarridge for our Derby Day meeting, when due to the number of entries in the 'totepool Ladies Day is on Sunday 25th June Handicap Chase' the race was divided in two, meaning the racegoers were able to watch 8 races.

One of the featured races of the day the 'Hexham and Northern Marts Handicap Hurdle', was won by the 15/8 favourite Desert Island Dusk, from Captain Brown at 16/1 and Verona Opera at 11/2 in third.
